Two For One!!

A Scottish visit AND a new Master Mason!

Bangor Union Masonic Lodge No.746

On Saturday, 5th October 2019, Bangor Union 746 held a Special Communication to receive visitors from Scotland and confer a Master Mason degree.

Our Scottish visitors were from Lodge Thorntree 1038 in the village of Prestonpans, East Lothian, a short distance from Edinburgh.

Their village is an old mining and fishing community colloquially known as “The Pans” and they are known as “The Panners”!

The Lodge Thorntree delegation was accompanied by brethren from Lodge Alexandria 1282 in Glasgow and Lodge Nisbet 1112 in the neighbouring village of Tranent. They were all keen to see some fine Irish ritual and Bangor Union 746 did not disappoint!

It was great to see our beautiful lodge room so full. Our Worshipful Master, WBro. Michael Nelson, opened the Lodge in fine style and, as the Master Mason degree was our only item of business, we got into it quickly.

Brother Brown, who came into Freemasonry of his own accord after seeing an announcement in social media for our Open Day last summer, was a superb candidate,
our Degree Team’s ritual was excellent and WBro. John Gibson, our Secretary, conferred the degree wonderfully. It was truly an event to remember and much enjoyed by our visitors. Some Brethren from Lodge Thorntree participated in the degree which made it even more memorable for Brother Anthony.

Afterwards we had an excellent Festive Board and social occasion and Brother Brown received congratulations from all present.

We were very pleased to receive our Scottish visitors, who have invited a delegation from Bangor Union 746 to pay a return visit to them next year. We look forward to that and to receiving some “Panners” back in Bangor soon.
